The Kabel-Recycling GmbH, founded in 1992, was the first of many small companies that now make up the FGD. Economic trade started with the recovery of important secondary raw materials from cables, which had to be recycled after the closure of the lignite mining facilities in the German region of Lusatia (Niederlausitz).

In 1995, the company Europarts Drochow GmbH was founded. Trying to make a contribution to the industrial development of the region, a new cable granulation plant hit the market.

Visionary thinking and the courage to entrepreneurial action led to the foundation of new companies covering business areas that arose exclusively from products and procedures developed and discovered within the FGD. Today, all of these companies are independent from a legal point of view but still interconnected through contracts, conventions and an umbrella organisation. This present form is practised since 2005.
